Cheers to the zapping crew. This morning after doing my new morning routine of back exercises I watched James Horton of George Washington University in a Civil War discussion. Using my new Win-TV-GO model 190 TV card from Hauppauge. Straight from Best Buy into my SuSE 9 Pro box. Yast2 > hardware > TV card - hey you’ve got a Hauppauge TV card, want to install the drivers?? [next] Drivers installed, time for TV (which I really do not watch much of). From the cutting of the tape that bound the TV card packaging to watching the History Channel - 20 minutes max. Screen shot for those that like them - yeah I’m one of those people.
I have a friend that has a very stressfull job with a local bank that can’t watch TV on his Hauppauge TV card because there isn’t a driver for his Windows XP box. Go figure.
I live in a small rural town in the South. The weekends mean yard work during the summer and that is exactly what we did yesterday, lots of yard work. Mowing grass, yes I know how to operate a lawn mower, picking up trash that has blown into our yard from god knows where, erecting objects in or around the yard/front or back porch/garage. Over the last few months I’ve been bringing quite a bit of work home to look over and review in the peace of my home office, but that has stopped. A very smart woman explained to me that work should be done at work, not home. Very very wise woman. I had the best day yesterday. No stress or worry about work, I left everything work related at work on Friday.
Isn’t Now the Time to Try a Linux Desktop? Wish I could print this out, make copies and pass it around town. It is copyrighted though so I can’t. Whenever someone around here starts talking (usually overheard in Wal-Mart) about computers around here it’s always about but screwed by the latest worm/virus on their windows boxen.

How to fix
vi /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/gpg-checker.conf
// Make RPM::GPG-Check no; to disable gpg checking
// It can still be used in combination with –checksig
RPM::GPG-Check false; < --- Change from true to false like so
Scripts::PM::Pre:: gpg-checker.lua;
OK, let us try again

Got to love apt-get. I switched from Debian (debian.org) to SuSE one day after my wife bought herself a boxed version from Best Buy. That’s right, I came home one day and she was installing SuSE 9 Professional on her computer because of an article she had read about email worms or virus problems on XP (which she had at the time). She had originally gone there to buy anti-virus software but then compared the price of Norton/Syma(whatever they are called) anti-virus software to a boxed Linux distro. She came home with SuSE 9. A month or so later she got interviewed by Linux.com (article). She is still using Linux, prefers KDE to gnome, rocks to radioparadise & xmms and writes book reviews for Popmatters along with the other books she is working on. I’m rambling - probably due to lack of brown water so it is probably time to end this post.

Playing catch up with too many projects after a hard-drive crash from last Thursday. Yes I do have backups - thank goodness. Been sick for about two weeks, not sure what exactly it is - maybe the heat down here in the south is too much - the doctors haven’t been able to help after two years. Who knows ^0^?
Bringing things back online and up-to-date after four days of down time. Didn’t do anything this weekend. Job is rewarding in it’s own way. Just can’t get over this tired feeling - bags under my eyes for two weeks. Very odd. Don’t drink, smoke or take drugs - I drink plenty of water and take a multi vitamin of some sort. Twice testing my blood doesn’t turn up anything.
Anyway, I did a clean install of SuSE 9 Professional - installed apt & synaptic (yeah I prefer the gui to cli) upgraded gnome from 2.2.+? to 2.4.1 this morning. Not exactly a smooth process on SuSE 9 as evidenced by more grey hair sprouting on my dome. Very nice interface though if anyone is interested I tell them how to go about making the switch.
Some ass monkey posted spam as a reply to an earlier post on install BloGTK and using it as a frontend to a WordPress cms site I had posted earlier. Hope they get VD at some point in their life!

Sun will put into the hands of the open-source community Project Looking Glass, its next-generation, 3-D Linux desktop system that has been receiving rave reviews. As work continues on Looking Glass, Sun has open-sourced Java 3D.
While Sun plans to open-source Looking Glass, it can’t yet because the technology isn’t finished. Kawahara said it will soon be completed and then turned over to open source. In the meantime, Sun did announce that it has open-sourced Java 3D, with Looking Glass to follow soon.

While I’ve switched to .net via mono from java development recently this is fairly exciting news. If they had only opened Java about three years ago! It’s too late now since .net works so well on Linux the chance for mind share of new developers may have passed.

Moved from Ximian’s XD2 to gnome 2.4 - took about 2 days of hair pulling, four hours of font fixing. Not recommended for the squemish(sp).
