Top credit cards

by macewan on May 25, 2008

Hey there I'm Robert MacEwan the author of Ideal Absolutes. If you're new to macewan.org, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed.

There are legitimate reasons to seek out 0 APR credit card sites. You should know what they are… and what they are not. Good reason: you blow a head-gasket and it’s fifteen miles to work and the guys you carpool with were just transferred to swing-shift. Bad reason: your ex-girlfriend wants an iPhone. Apple’s got a cool product and all that, but not at those interest rates.

That’s the thing about using credit cards. They’re serious business and meant for real-time emergencies. Not gizmomentos and giddgedygoes. Pay more than the minimum amount when a payment is due. This is true for ALL types of cards.

Chuck

by macewan on May 25, 2008

Two years ago, a cardinal baby bird fell from its nest into the backyard. Frances (Scottie supreme) kept barking for us to come outside. She ran into little spurts, back and forth in front of our fence where we have a lot of brush piled up for the birds to hang out in. Val noticed the bird and tried to hand it to me. If you know me and granted, most of you don’t, you’d know I do not want a just-hatched baby redbird in my hand… it’s not that I’m squeemish, it’s just … anyway, back to the story. I was informed that I must find the nest and put it back into it. Yeah, right… okay… where’s a cardinal nest in this brush? We looked for a few minutes and sure enough, found the nest. Too high in the bushes for Val to put the bird away, so I had to take it and return it to its mother.

The bird apparently grew up and really likes Val. I kid you not. When she is out in the yard and starts talking, the bird flies nearby and chirps or chitters at her. It’s weird. He also sits outside the garden window (where the cat sleeps) and looks down at the cat and into the breakfast room. I finally got a picture of him so people will believe me.

Selecting the right hosting company

by macewan on May 25, 2008

In searching for the best hosting company you’ll want to take your options into consideration. Now for me it all came down to which fits the bill. What are my needs at this moment and who can fill them. For the blogger with one site this may not seem too important, but what happens when you start building out?

Well, for me to choose the right host there need to be a certain period of research. Call me crazy - I want stats or at the very least a recommendation. Just point me in the right direction. Searching for web hosting articles isn’t always easy and I’ve done the easy work for you. Let me know if you choose one.

Creating multiple streams of income

by macewan on May 23, 2008

Unless your brand is along the lines of Chow, Cow, Shoe, Zac, Josh or Dooce relying on blog brand alone is a dangerous proposition. Why? Well, assuming this article will be read much later than current memory of the 2007 Google slap, your brand may turn to dust over night. So what is a blog pimp to do you ask? Two words - Affiliate Marketing. One positive pay-offs of affiliate marketing comes from the idea that you can subscribe to as many different affiliate programs (read: diversify) as you can reasonably handle, at the same time. In a coming article I will touch on the importance of focus delivered through your blog to appeal to customers instead of appearing like a fucktard of links. It’s a fine line to walk between having multiple streams of income and having too many programs. Trust me on this, I’m currently hitting 120 differing sites and it heading towards impossible to handle. I don’t have the convenience of ignoring the problem so let’s take a jab at the right method of dealing with this situation. Only, let’s take this slowly building on one site at a time. Soak, wash, rinse and repeat. Here we go.

Make sure your streams relate to each other. This is a tip worth a thousand bucks, alone. Think about it for a moment. Yes, you want to have more than one program on your website at once, but you don’t want 10 or 15 because it’s too much to manage. So, what’s the best way to go? Have 4-5 and make them all related to each other! Say your first program is through a company that sells pet supplies. You’ve written some stellar content on pets sine it’s a passion of yours, but you want more than one stream of income. How about a program through a gourmet pet food distributor? You can SHARE CONTENT then, since you already have great content written about pets to begin with. Want more? Find a company that sells pet treats from around the world. Or maybe one that specializes in pet medications through the mail. The choices are endless and by relating all of your companies, you won’t have to write separate content for each program. You’ll save time and make money! Creating multiple steams of income is pretty easy when you look at it. Combine products under the same umbrella to save time or add a program that you can make funny and informative lists on. Your site will benefit and you’ll have happy customers to boot!

However, if want to build individual sources of income from just one blog… use digression. Yes, you want to have more than one program on your website at once, but you don’t want 10 or 15 because it’s too much to manage. Think about it for a moment. Extra confusion dealing with a gazillion companies will not do you or your advertisers any good. Also, keep the theme of advertisers in check. Say whaaa? Make sure the streams relate to one other. This is a tip worth a million smackers alone. OK, so what’s the best method to use? How many is not too many? Stay at around 4 or 5 and keep them all related to each other! If reign high in the monkey training world - stay away from car sales. Say your first program is through a company that sells howler monkey supplies. You’ve written a crap load of articles on those tree swinging sons-of-bitches since it’s your passion, but you want more than one stream of income. How about a program through a gourmet monkey food distributor? You can SHARE CONTENT then, since you already have great content written about pets to begin with. Want more? Find a company that sells monkey treats from all over the globe. Or maybe one that specializes in monkey meds through snail mail. The choices are endless and by relating all of your companies, you won’t have to write separate content for each program. You’ll save time and make money!

Do understand the importance of having fun with posts. Say you find an affiliate marketing program that you just have to add to your site, but it’s about a topic you don’t know much about. Don’t worry! You can still write interesting and informative content, even if it’s about a product you’re not an expert on. Try a list. Just flip through the TV listings this week and take a look at all the list shows on right now. People love lists. You can make a quickie top-10 list style article and relate it to your new affiliate program. This will allow you to diversify your business and add extra streams of income at the same time. You don’t want your site to be entirely lists, but one out of three or four is fine and it makes your site appear more fun!

Best Free Blog Services

by macewan on May 20, 2008

What is a blog and what are blog services?

This is an interesting subject - Blogs. Unlike in the business world — whether for profit or for nonprofit — you find folks unwilling to admit deficits. In my area of rural Washington, North Carolina this is especially evident. Small town small minds? Big fish in little waters? Looking towards the “blogosphere” I see something more along the lines of my Open Source roots. A willingness to share both the knowledge and fame or credit as it were. Hold on a sec. I really am getting to the point here , give me a second. My point is ’round these here parts of the rural south you find folks a bit on the egocentric side almost completely lacking in any resemblance of humility. There is little sense of magnanimity in “the hub of IBX”. A certain air of chickenshit arrogance waffes through our power crowd. Sad.

Blogs and bloggers like those in the free software or open source communities show willingness not only to ask for assistance, but to openly admit to short comings. Very refreshing indeed. In discussing this subject you must understand that blogs are a major part of online activity in today’s society. Millions of people blog daily. Some of us recognize a bit of celebrity status as a result of our blogs - plus our A-Listers make serious cash. What exactly is blogging? Well, macewan.org is a blog. You see a blog is a website which consists of various entries. These entries are written by the blogger. Blog entries are often called posts. All blog entries or posts appear in reverse chronological order featuring the most recent entry listed first.

So blogging is like a diary?

Blogging, in a sense, is very similar to a journal or diary. Majority of blogs include comments and links which are placed to gain user interactivity and community. As with most warm and fuzzy discussions the topic of cashmoneyY0 creeps in. Oh yeah, serious money is made online. More than you’ll ever earn in small towns 8-5. Sorta one of the reasons I blog coach folks. Staying on the subject of community and mixing in the money making aspect I just touched on, Michael of michaelmartine.com recently wrote on the subject of community building (traffic) as it pertains to online profits. Chris Garrett took the idea a step beyond the basics Michael laid before us. In his version a blogpack is created the Authority Blogger Blog Pack. Now this is far from new. Most have been there done that already. However, this pack is fair new and revving for new members. Those already members can head over to http://drop.io/ABpacktwitter to download the latest version of the feeds OPML or Twitter list files - thanks Rebecca Leaman for the heads up.

Bloggers are cool like that? =)

That’s debateable. First things first. Blogs are produced by a special software. With this site - macewan.org - the backend or “special software” is WordPress. Blogging is the act of writing blog entries or posts in a blog. Blogosphere or blog services sites usually consist of an online community of blogs and bloggers *think AB Blog Pack*. Blogging is very therapeutic and a great way to be heard. You can even get paid to blog sometimes. It is possible to become a professional blogger because the activity has become so popular. People blog to express their thoughts and opinions, market or promote something, help other people, establish yourself as an expert, connect with people similar to you, to make a difference, to stay active or knowledgeable in a certain field or topic, to stay connected to friend and family, and to make money from various forms of media. Blogging plays a key role in many different causes. There are times when being a celeb. blogger has it’s perks. Not 10 minutes ago while writing this post I was contacted by a resort owner in Costa Rica. He needed services I provide in exchange for one of the rooms on the beach. Air conditioning and a pool on the freaking beach for 2 weeks free! Viva yo. Chickabowow.

There are many different ways to blog and most of them are through free blog services, that’s right the majority of blog services are free. There are a few that charge for you to blog or upgrade to utilize their additional features. Blog services are sites that allow users to post blogs and they host the site. Blog services that are free come in many various features and styles. When you select a free blog service platform make sure you pick one that suits your blogging needs. Blogabond.com and Trippert.com is a blog site dedicated to travel blogs. You can blog about all of your vacations and adventures from abroad on these free blog services. BlogRox.com offers over 40MB of free online space to blog. Blogger.com is one of the most popular of free blog services they are very easy to use for novice bloggers. The templates help you set everything up with ease. Bravenet.com is a free blog service site that offers RSS feeds and other very cool features. ClearBlogs.com is also another free blog service that offers templates, friends only posts, and IP banning. Blog.com is a free blog service that offers unlimited bandwidth for their free members and a paid member option that features additonal benefits. Blogetery.com is a free blog service that offers multiple templates with anti-spam and extra features. Netcipia.com is a free blog service with wiki that offers public and private display along with 2GB of storage for users. Xanga.com is a free blog service that offers a social networking feature with the blogging experience. Multiply.com is a blog service that mixes social networking along with photo galleries and other neat features. There are many options you can select when deciding the best free blog services to use.
