Hulu.com beta invitation

by macewan on February 20, 2008

Hey there I'm Robert MacEwan the author of Ideal Absolutes. If you're new to macewan.org, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed.

Shortly after the discussion on TechCrunch and my mini Newsclipper review an invite for Hulu.com arrived in my inbox. My first impressions will follow shortly. First impression was an instant liking of the smart design. Clean crisp and well thought out. Absent was the forever loading advertisement iframe everone hates. So far two thumbs up.

Before I jump head first into how wonderful their streaming video is you must know it only streams in the U.S. Testing was done on an Ubuntu Linux system with the latest Flash 9 (non beta). The computer is coming in at 1.8 Mhz with a gig of ram. During my review I had multiple workspaces each with on average 5 applications. Keeping this in mind I’m happy to say the video was flawless.

Hulu’s ambitious and never-ending mission is to help you find and enjoy the world’s premium content when, where and how you want it.

They lack overwhelming levels of content for a startup this caliber. What surprised me was the length of the clips films they offered. No off brand dust collecting out of date choices either. From the Family Guy to the Simpsons and Tonight Show. Why haven’t you seen Hulu’s offerings in an advertisement? *cough

Let’s throw up a few more of the shows to whet that appetite!

  • The Tonight Show: Fri, Feb 15, 2008 Season 52 : Episode 3499(43:52)
  • The Simpsons: Love, Springfieldian Style Season 19 : Episode 12(21:49)
  • Barney Miller: Bus Stop Season 3 : Episode 4(25:05)
  • Knight Rider: “Knight Rider” Movie Season 1 : Episode 1(1:20:52)

Count me as a fan. No software to download. No needing Windows XVistaP with SPwhatever with the built-in Norton Antivirus kungfoo grip. Accessibility to a wide range of ‘net devices seals the deal for me. Want more? Love unzipping files? Enjoy the inside scoop? Check out their logos, screenshots and press kit.

Techcrunch on Newsclipper.org

by macewan on February 20, 2008

Just came across an article on Techcrunch on the Newsclipper.org video site. Now I wasn’t heading over there to read through his usual material - no the purpose of the visit was much different indeed. I eyes-n-ears however are oh so happy for the deviation none-the-less.

We’re working on a breakdown of the site as I speak. Stay tuned. *get it? tuned =)

Deleo asked whether the news section of Truveo compares. Equals? In the shot below you see that I’m being referred to CNN page to play the video whereas with the Newsclipper.org site the video plays without problem - immediately.

Truveo v Newsclipper.org

With Newsclipper there might be problems with the embedding of clips (think CNN) due to copyright issues in doing so. Turns out PLAY VIDEO just below Obama’s lower lip is there for a reason.
