The Participatory Culture Foundation (we make Miro - getmiro.com) is looking to hire a top notch fundraiser to help grow our organization. We are especially interested in candidates in the Bay Area but will consider anyone across the country.
This is a very exciting moment for our organization and our mission to build open media. This position would be a unique opportunity for someone to help us grow as we build the revenue side of our organization towards sustainability.
Please pass this along to anyone who might be good for this position!
Thanks so much,
nicholas
Company: Participatory Culture Foundation (Miro)
Job Title: Fundraising Development Director
Description: OUR NEED
The Participatory Culture Foundation (PCF) is a unique 501c3. We are working to build a freer and more inclusive media environment by developing free, open software tools. Our core product, Miro, has been downloaded more than 2 million times by individuals around the globe. It allows users to connect directly with creators, with gatekeepers.
PCF is growing quickly and is competing with for-profit companies in an volatile media environment. We are a young organization, with a very focused and extremely talented staff. We have been successful in our fundraising but are looking to grow even more rapidly and need a full-time individual focused on development.
As the Mozilla Foundation has done, our goal is to become majority self-funded over the next two years. The right Development Director person will enable us to grow our capacity in the short-term and reach sustainability in the long-term.
POSITION
The Development Director will develop and pursue a fundraising strategy for the organization. We seek both a short to mid-term capital influx that will allow us to grow as well as a longer-term sustainability strategy. You will work with our existing network of high net-worth donors and develop new relationships. You will pursue new foundation funding opportunities and work to extend our current grants. You must be able to independently represent our mission and our work. You must be thoughtful and careful as well as creative and able to move quickly. You must be friendly and engaging.
Your work will involve traveling to meet with potential donors and foundations in California, around the country, and perhaps around the world. As most of our largest donors come from the Bay Area, we are focusing our search for this position in that area but are not limiting it. Our staff in distributed across the country, but our Business Development Director is in San Francisco and we may setup a small office there soon. You will not need to move to accept this job and are welcome to work from home.
Specific functions will include:
-Reporting to and working closely alongside the Executive Director to develop and implement a development strategy.
-Working with our Board of Directors and existing donors and foundation funders to identify new prospects.
-Managing a significant portfolio of major donor prospects; making direct asks when appropriate.
-Creating donor solicitation, acknowledgement and cultivation materials.
-Developing ways—both systematic and personal—to recognize, steward and upgrade major donors utilizing classic development techniques (e.g., major donor recognition program, fundraising and cultivation events/meetings, planned giving program, major donor pledge program/monthly giving, etc.).
-Maintaining accurate and timely records of all interactions with donors using fundraising software.
-Data mining and research from internal and external sources to identify and appropriately target prospects.
QUALIFICATIONS
We have an excellent funding pipeline but need a leader who can seize and expand these opportunities. We are seeking an individual that, like the rest of our staff, is passionate, creative, and unusually talented; someone who can work well with high net-worth donors and traditional foundations.
4-7+ years of development experience needed, with experience in major gifts, foundation proposal development, experience working with a board of directors, experience with high net-worth individuals.
