Philippe Dauman is an idiot

Surely the investors are savvy enough see through this boastful dimwit. His saying that they’re goal to “show our content in an environment we control” speaks volumes of his ignorance.

Philippe – come here a second. Let’s talk. Look here, I’m a beta tester for Joost and it may look sorta pretty if you run the latest version of Windows with an updated dummafligy patch – this alienates an enormous group of people. Plus it is rather insulting that a major player ignores the fact that the Internet is all about access. Don’t go the route Yahoo! went with the .wmv only content.

I’ve been youtubing and whatnot since before you knew that the Skype client was available on three major platforms. Anyway here’s the thing. Nobody give a flying fuck about your desire to control the distribution of Via*’s content. If you want your product to move through the wires this year with the gut wrenching laugh buzz it deserves then check the ego at the door and listen to the geeks that know what the hell their talking about. Yes, Joost is neat. Yes, Joost is shiny. Yes, Joost is software that has to be downloaded and may install if you meet its hardware requirements. No, Joost don’t work on the N800, cellphones, tablets or anything other than a computer with Windows 90/2000whatthehelleveritisuptonowdays.

When it comes to watching a quick clip from the night before nobody want to crank up a software package only to watch 25 seconds of haha. Might be neat for about a week and then the bugs reports start pouring in and the investors and advertisers start bitching. This ongoing headache will last for 1 year before everyone starts questioning the wisdom of you ignoring Flash video for fear of Google kicking sand in your face. Oh yeah, Linux now has Flash 9 support. Yup yup, we’re outa beta baby.

So what am trying to get across to you on stb as you drink warm milk from a sipy cup? It’s the browser owner you dumb dumb. And if you read this post from a piece of paper John & Steve ought to renegotiate their contracts quickly.

The days of Microsoft trying to strong arm ISPs while headbutting Netscape and tripping Progressive *coughReal* Video are over. But Vista is pretty you say? Ok, the application window can turn to the side to be flipped like pieces of paper. Ubuntu is free and works on lower minimum requirements. I can grab my entire desktop into the form of a cube and spin the bitch in circles. Really, just Google Beryl video or head to Youtube.com to watch one of the 20kazillion clips of Beryl on Ubuntu. The dock from OS-X? I love talent. Apple has the talent. Jobs has the touch. But I’ve have the kiba-dock. I can snatch the icons off the dock and fling around in circles. No real reason to do this but it is possible.

Wake up. We control the environment of your content delivery – and don’t forget it. Listen to the ethical knowledge geeks before the investors give you the boot. Is anyone from the top tier investor crowd planning to call him on this foolish move?

Television is fairly irrelevant to the up and coming crowd. Production and distribution of laughter is getting cheaper by the second while at the same time becoming easier and easier. Your laughter bundle is only valuable if the people controlling the mice say so. We choose the content we want. We choose the method of viewing.

At some point John is going to get sick of the silly politics and once he and the one known as Steve decide to up and leave. Well, your investors are pretty much fucked. Pst, same with you.

Don’t forget the basics of supply and demand. The old media thumping of the chest isn’t cutting it anymore. You might be able to control the supply, but without our demand your advertisers are left without our valuable eyes. Piss us off and we click a button. Continue chest thumping and the voices online will eat you alive. It only takes a few people to get the word out.

Paul don’t be an idiot. Use Youtube.

and that’s the word

cheers,
macewan
