OK, so let’s update this howto. This is how I installed Engage on Ubuntu Dapper. Engage is the OSX like toolbar from E17. First, soulmachine is not maintained, so I tested "enlightenment.technatica.net" version, tested ok but I continued with "gefechtsdienst.de" having better luck, thanks to mzilikaz – cheers.
Let’s do it then by adding the following to sources.list:
deb http://gefechtsdienst.de/uman/files/ unstable main
Next we need to edit or create /etc/apt/preferences with:
Package: enlightenment
Pin: version 0.16.999*
Pin-Priority: 999
Package: enlightenment-data
Pin: version 0.16.999*
Pin-Priority: 999
Next we need to:
wget http://gefechtsdienst.de/uman/files/archive_key.asc
Next we need to:
sudo apt-key add archive_key.asc
Next we need to:
sudo apt-get update
Next we need to:
sudo apt-get install engage enlightenment-data emodules emodules-extra evidence evas0-bin embryo0-bin etk elicit eterm express epsilon0-bin epeg0-bin edje0-bin enterminus evfs examine entice enlightenment edb-tools enscribe-efl eutils entropy
Next we need to:
e17genmenu
Next we need to:
entangle
Next we can drag-n-drop to list our preferred apps on Engage – don’t forget to save. Next run Engage:
engage

Thank you very much for giving a chance to try e17 on dapper. However I could not install some of important enlightenment packages :
###########
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
engage: Depends: libemotion0 but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libewl0 but it is not going to be installed
entropy: Depends: libemotion0 but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libewl0 but it is not going to be installed
eutils: Depends: libemotion0 but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libewl0 but it is not going to be installed
evidence: Depends: xlibs (> 4.1.0) but it is not installable
examine: Depends: libemotion0 but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libewl0 but it is not going to be installed

emotion can not be installed because of xine problems.
I have the latest version of dapper’s packages.

Hey guys…running “unstable” here. You might wanna check http://edevelop.org/node/2138 for a solution. You may (I know I had to) get all the libecore0- files and manually dpkg –install them first. Hope it helps. God knows that I’m happy to be back on DR17.

Thank Kill_J0y,
I have installed engage from cvs before and it’s work fine. See my blog. I will try your suggestion. Thank a lot. Sorry for my English :”>

No prob, cak3p. Another solution is http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=533202#post533202 , although you may want to also skip “monitor” in addition to eclair and emotion. Worked perfectly for me when I did it that way. The same script will keep you up-to-date later.

Quite sad, but this doesn’t work any longer due to missing dependencies.

Hi are these the dependency problems your talking about?
user@host:~/e17cvs$ sudo apt-get install engage enlightenment-data emodules emodules-extra evidence evas0-bin embryo0-bin etk elicit eterm express epsilon0-bin epeg0-bin edje0-bin enterminus evfs examine entice enlightenment edb-tools enscribe-efl eutils entropy
Reading package lists… Done
Building dependency tree… Done
Note, selecting enlightenment for regex ‘enlightenment-data’
E: Couldn’t find package emodules
where do i get the full ones
[ not sure what to tell you on this airtonix, it's been so long since I tested this. probably best if you visit the forums to see if there's an update]

Dorian, hey I’ll check.
“I get an error to:
Couldnt find package emodules
Where can I can this package?”
